Lectures

Do You See What I See?
Though it might seem mysterious because quilt judging happens out of public view, there are no secrets.  With the aid of a PowerPoint presentation, everyone can clearly see the details of workmanship for which a judge scans.  More importantly, there is a thorough discussion of the design elements that make a composition stand out among the others.  The audience is encouraged to ask questions and participate in the discussion.  Come along and see quilts through a judge’s eyes!

What Makes a Wall Quilt an Art Quilt?
Quilt show entry forms ask the quiltmaker to choose the correct category for judging.  How do you know which is the right category?  What exactly makes a quilt an art quilt?  Learn to distinguish between “art quilt” and “modern quilt.” In this PowerPoint presentation, hear from a judge how to best position your quilt in the next competition, whether it’s style is pictorial, landscape or abstract.  See the quilts clearly and participate in the discussion.  By the end, you will have a better understanding of “art quilts” and the judging process of quilt design.

Lecture fees are $600 for a 60 min. presentation.
